Virtual K-12 Sarasota GO hosted middle school students interested in the medical field

McIntosh Middle School students enrolled in FSU’s SSTRIDE course participated in our virtual K-12 Sarasota Gator Outreach (Sarasota GO) event hosted by Dr. Furtney of Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Students learned about the career path, benefits of a degree in biomedical engineering and were walked through the Cellular Engineering Lab via a webcam affixed on Dr. Furtney’s head. Students saw microscopic cell samples, a centrifuge, pipetting, and a special freezer that preserves samples at -80 degrees! They were also able to hear from UF undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

SSTRIDE is designed to attract more young women and minorities to the medical field.
