Eight HWCOE students and organizations have been selected as award recipients at the 2026 UF Student Engagement Involvement Awards Ceremony. This competitive event is held every year and seeks applications from across the UF campus.

With Tom Petty providing their soundtrack, about 110 University of Florida students explored the intersection of engineering and art in Europe this summer. 

Less than a month after UF’s Eckhoff Steel Bridge Team made history by capturing its fifth consecutive national title, another UF civil engineering team paddled its way to its fifth national title (four in the last six years). 

The HWCOE office of Student Affairs’ new Center for Experiential Learning is launching this winter with inaugural director, Sarah Furtney, Ph.D. The Experiential Learning Center is a single place where students, faculty, advisors, and industry partners can go for information and support about co-curricular, outside-of-the-classroom, formative experiences for our Gator Engineering students.

Joel comes to us from HWCOE First Year Advising and has extensive experience as an advisor and educator for our students. He completed graduate studies in Art History at UF, earned an MFA in Painting at Washington University in St. Lous, and received BA’s in Studio Art and Art History from the College of Charleston. Joel started his career here at UF as an academic advisor in HWCOE Advising in 2014.

Championships keep rolling in for University of Florida ASCE chapters, as student teams won first place overall earlier this month at the ASCE Southeast Student Symposium in Athens, Ga.

The UF Chapter of iGEM dazzled 2024 Grand Jamboree judges, earning a gold medal for their research into sepsis, a life-threatening condition that results from the body’s dysregulated response to infection.

Brooke Lastinger’s academic journey is a testament to the power of exploring new frontiers. An undergraduate student in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), Lastinger found her path through a combination of mentorship, research opportunities and following her passion.
