International Engineering Ambassadors

The International Engineering Ambassadors (IEA) are a vibrant and diverse group of engineering students at the University of Florida, which includes both domestic and international undergraduate and graduate members. United by a shared passion for global engagement and cultural exchange, the IEA plays a vital role in fostering a welcoming environment for all students. As leaders in global learning, they are instrumental in internationalizing the Gator Engineering experience.

IEAs are globally-minded, culturally aware students dedicated to fostering meaningful connections across cultures. They mentor international students, share their own experiences abroad, and promote global opportunities within the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.

Throughout the academic year, International Engagement Assistants (IEAs) serve in various roles, including:

  • Welcoming New International Students
Assist with the International Engineering Student Orientation in August by helping with check-in, campus tours, event setup, workshops, and addressing student questions.
  • Mentoring
Stay connected with assigned groups of new international students to help them adjust both academically and culturally to life at the University of Florida (UF).
  • Promoting International Opportunities
Help organize and participate in information sessions, study abroad fairs, and campus events by sharing your own global experiences through study, research, internships, or service.
  • Peer Advising
Provide guidance to students preparing for international programs, often connecting them with peers who are headed to the same country or region.
  • Hosting Visitors
Welcome prospective international students, faculty, and university representatives visiting the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.
  • Program Feedback and Improvement
Offer valuable input to enhance international student experiences and improve global programming across the college.

Becoming an International Engineering Ambassador is a yearlong commitment. Applications open in early fall (August) and remain open throughout the academic year.

As an ambassador, you will receive:

  • A certificate of appreciation
  • Recognition at a year-end ceremony
  • Access to leadership and networking opportunities

“Joining International Engineering Ambassadors after my study abroad was a great way to connect with students from all over the world, share my experiences, and support others who want to go abroad. It’s a rewarding way to give back to the Gator Engineering community.”
— Joshua Honorat, IEA President (2020–21)

“IEA was an amazing chance to network with engineers from around the world. I loved coming up with creative ways to connect international students with UF students interested in global experiences. I used my leadership experience in almost every interview I had during my job search. Overall, it was an incredible experience!”
