FAQ for International Students

If you’re an international exchange student spending a semester or year at UF, this FAQ page will help guide you through the class registration process. Find answers to common questions about prerequisites, full classes, credit loads, and more.

Many UF courses have prerequisites. Even if you’ve completed equivalent courses at your home institution, the UF registration system won’t automatically recognize them. In these cases, an advisor will need to grant you permission or register you manually.

This happens often. While we cannot guarantee a spot, you can keep checking enrollment and register if a seat opens. Many students add or drop classes during the first week, so availability may change. If you’re approved to register yourself, we’ll let you know.

Yes. You may add or drop classes up until the last day of the first week of the semester.

Yes, as long as you drop the extra classes by the end of the first week of classes.

Undergraduate exchange students typically register for 12–15 credits. Graduate students usually register for 9–12 credits.

Student schedules often shift during the drop/add week, so keep checking for availability. However, it’s a good idea to have backup classes ready. If you’re here for the full academic year, you may have another chance to take the course in the spring.

Our first priority is ensuring all students are enrolled in the required classes. Section change requests will be reviewed after everyone is registered.
