Bethsymarie Soto Morales

2017 Robert C. Pittman NIMET Fellow
Ph.D. Student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering
B.S., The University of Puerto Rico

Bethsymarie obtained her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM). She has had research experiences at UPRM in the Polymeric Biomaterials Laboratory, engineering novel biomaterials for tissue regeneration. Bethsymarie has also participated in research experiences for undergraduates (REU) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in (1) Cyanobacterial RNase proteins purification, and (2) Modeling the Blood Brain Barrier from stem cell-derived endothelial cells, astrocytes, and neurons. Also, she participated in a co-op experience at Eli Lilly and Company, and AbbVie Pharmaceuticals. Bethsymarie will become a graduate research assistant within the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Florida. Bethsymarie is looking forward to use engineering to understand and solve health problems, including diseases that surround her family and community.

Bethsymarie’s research interests include regenerative medicine, and biomaterials for tissue regeneration.
