NIMET Fellows

Since 2012, NIMET has sponsored supplemental fellowships for Ph.D. students doing doctoral research in nanoscience and technology. Below is list of the current and prior fellowship recipients.

2018 Fellows

2017 Fellows

  • Connor Smith went to the University of Alabama and received his M.S. Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Currently he is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UF.
  • Abbas Furniturewalla went to Rutgers University – New Brunswick and received his B.S. in Electrical and computer Engineering. Currently he is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UF.
  • Ellie Ahlquist went to the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and received her B.S. in Biological Systems Engineering. Currently she is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UF.
  • L. Savannah Dewberry went to the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. Currently she is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UF.
  • Taylor Yeater went to The Ohio State University and received her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. Currently she is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UF.
  • Bethsymarie Soto Morales went to the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez and received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Currently she is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UF.

2016 Fellows

  • Ulbert Botero is a Ph.D student at the Florida Institute of Cyber Security. He joined UF after receiving his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science at the University of Central Florida.
  • David Christianson is a Ph.D student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He joined UF after earning a B.S degree in Materials Science and Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
  • Pablo Dopico is a Ph.D student in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He joined UF after earning his M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
  • David Keister went to St Ambrose University in Iowa and received his bachelors.
  • Ryan Madler is a Ph.D student in the Department of Electrical Computer Engineering. He joined UF after earning his B.S in Eletrical Engineering at Arizona State University.
  • Emily Turner is a PH.D. student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. She joined UF after earning a B.S. degree in Systems Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

2015 Fellows

  • Keisha Castillo-Torres is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  She joined UF after earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico.
  • Brett Freidkes is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida.
  • Cadron Pickett is a Ph.D. student in the Physics Department.  He joined UF after earning a B.S. in Physics at Louisiana State University.

2013 Fellows

  • Danielle Fagnani is a Ph.D. student in the Chemistry Dept. She joined UF in 2013 after earning a B.S. in Chemistry from Drexel University.
  • Jose Varillas is a Ph.D. student in the Biomedical Engineering Dept. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Florida.

2012 Fellows

  • Tarielle Sanders is a Ph.D. student in the Materials Science & Engineering Dept. studying piezoelectric thin films under the advisement of Prof. Jacob Jones. She joined UF in 2012 after earning a B.S. in Chemistry from Norfolk State University. (link)
  • Justin Chew is a Ph.D. student in the Chemical Engineering Dept. studying the use of anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) templates for controlling the physical characteristics (i.e. diameter, length, packing density) of carbon nanotube arrays under the advisement of Prof. Kirk Ziegler. He joined UF in 2012 after earning a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University. (link)
