Expand your engineering education beyond borders.
At the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, you have the opportunity to study abroad through a variety of programs that align with your academic goals and personal interests.
Whether you choose to participate in a short-term UF-sponsored program or spend a full semester or a year at a partner university abroad, you’ll gain valuable global experience while earning credit toward your degree. Studying abroad helps build cross-cultural communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, qualities that are essential for engineers in today’s interconnected world.
Program Types
UF offers several types of study abroad programs. Two of the most popular are UF Exchange and UF-Sponsored programs.
UF-Sponsored Programs
These are faculty-led programs specially developed by UF departments or professors. On these programs, you’ll:
- Travel and study with a group of UF students
- Take courses taught by UF faculty in their area of expertise
- Earn UF and/or transfer credit
- Pay a program fee that typically includes tuition, housing, excursions, and health insurance
- UF in Brno: Engineering and Arts in Central Europe
- UF in Cape Town: Software Engineering and UX Design
- UF in Chile: International Energy Management
- UF in Iceland: Renewable Energy and Sustainability
- UF in Ireland: Internship and Global Culture
- UF in Italy: From Automotive Industries to Urban Planning
- UF in Japan: Cross Cultural Engineering Design
- UF in Lille: Engineering and Arts in France
- UF in London: Innovating for Access
- UF in Munich: Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- UF in Singapore: Internship and Global Culture
- UF in South Korea: Cross-Cultural Engineering and Design
- UF in Spain: Understanding Next Generation Energy Technologies
UF Exchange Programs
These programs allow students to study at one of UF’s partner universities abroad while paying regular UF tuition. On an exchange program, you’ll:
- Enroll directly in a host university’s course offerings
- Immerse yourself in a new culture and academic environment
- Take courses in English or a foreign language
- Earn UF credit
- Pay UF tuition

Academics Abroad
For students on UF Exchange, Non-UF, and some UF Sponsored programs, we will need to receive an official transcript in order to transfer the credits from your program to your official UF Transcript. According to UF policy and the Student Code of Conduct, all academic work you attempt anywhere must be reported to the UF Registrar, including courses taken while abroad. Once UFIC receives an official transcript from the host school, your study abroad advisor will process the grades and send them to the Registrar’s office for further processing. This will become part of your academic record at UF.
Universities abroad have different grading systems than those in the United States. Please see grade conversion guidelines below.
