Having accepted their invitations to Gator Engineering at Santa Fe, students must then meet certain requirements each semester to maintain their positions in the program. To progress through the program, students must adhere to a timely schedule of classes, meet both an overall and Critical Tracking GPA minimum, and aim to acquire their AA degrees from Santa Fe College before transitioning fully to UF.

Important Terms and Explanations

Santa Fe student: student status at Santa Fe College (SF) only, enrolled only at SF

UF-Admitted student: student in the Gator Engineering at Santa Fe program who is eligible to take at least 1 course at UF while continuing major coursework and AA degree requirements at SF

Full UF student: student who is eligible to transition fully to UF’s campus for all remaining courses
*Student may still need to meet AA degree requirements via a reverse transfer of credit back to SF.

Critical Tracking (CT) courses: major-specific, foundational courses such as Calculus, Physics & Chemistry
*Critical Tracking begins at Calculus I for students of all majors, except for those requiring precalculus coursework (who are tracked back one semester).

Timeline

Gator Engineering at Santa Fe students come from varying academic backgrounds, and some will need to be tracked back one semester. Due to the rigorous and structured nature of the program, however, all students have the same deadline to be admitted to UF: end of Fall 2. Students who must take prerequisite classes before beginning their CT coursework are expected to adjust their schedules (usually through strategic planning out of Summer semesters) to accommodate the additional classes they need.

Optimal Timeline

Sample 4-year course plans for all available majors in the program can be found here.

Select each expanding/contracting semester option below for an idea of what students’ first years could look like in the Gator Engineering at Santa Fe program:

Summer B (optional)

Santa Fe students may take general classes toward their AA degrees or prerequisite classes (in math or chemistry, for example) at SF to prepare for CT courses.

Fall 1
  • Santa Fe students take all classes at SF. At least one class must be a CT course.
  • Students maintain an overall 2.0 GPA or higher and 2.5 CT GPA or higher.

Students who meet these criteria at the end of Fall 1 become UF-Admitted students for the Spring 1 semester!

*Students who place into precalculus math are tracked back one semester and may take their first CT course in Spring 1. These students will be reviewed for UF admission at the end of Summer 1.

Spring 1
  • UF-Admitted students take additional CT classes at SF and 1 class at UF. Students continue taking classes toward their AA degrees at SF.
    • UF-Admitted students receive their GatorOne cards, UF email addresses, etc. They now have access to all UF student facilities and services.
    • Financial aid will now be processed by UF for UF-Admitted students.
  • Students maintain an overall 2.0 GPA or higher and 2.5 CT GPA or higher.

*Students who are not yet UF-admitted will continue to take all classes at SF with a focus on CT and AA required courses.

Summer 1
  • Students are expected to take CT classes at SF. If needed, students can supplement their class schedules with AA required courses.
  • Students maintain an overall 2.0 GPA or higher and 2.5 CT GPA or higher.

*Students who are not yet UF-admitted will be reviewed at the end of this semester for Fall 2 admission to UF.

Fall 2
  • UF-Admitted students complete all remaining CT classes at SF while also taking at least 1 UF class. If students have not already earned their AA degrees by this time, they continue taking AA required classes at SF.
  • Students maintain an overall 2.0 GPA or higher and 2.5 CT GPA or higher.

Students who meet these criteria at the end of Fall 2 become Full UF students for the Spring 2 semester!

*Students who have not yet been admitted to UF have until the end of this semester to become UF-Admitted, so they may begin UF coursework in Spring 2.

Spring 2
  • Full UF students take all remaining coursework toward their bachelor’s degrees at UF. Any remaining associate’s degree coursework is completed at UF with a reverse transfer of credit back to Santa Fe College.

Full UF student status + AA degree from SF = Program complete!

*Any remaining CT courses for UF-Admitted students must be completed at SF.

Note:

  • Students must be admitted to UF no later than the end of the Fall 2 semester to begin UF coursework in the Spring 2 semester.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours toward their AA degrees at Santa Fe College before matriculating fully to UF campus.
  • All CT courses must be completed at SF (except for COP 3502C for Computer Science majors and EMA 3010 for Materials Science and Engineering majors).

GPA

Gator Engineering at Santa Fe students must maintain both an overall/cumulative GPA  and a Critical Tracking (CT) GPA for the duration of their participation in the program:

Overall GPA: 2.0 or higher

CT GPA: 2.5 or higher

CT courses for each major are highlighted in grey in these sample course plans.

GPA Calculator

Note:

  • GPAs are calculated based on the UF grading scale.
  • CT classes must be passed with a grade of C or better (while maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher).
    • Students may attempt a CT class 2 times (withdrawing from a CT class counts as an attempt).
    • Students may double attempt up to 3 CT classes.

AA Degree

Gator Engineering at Santa Fe students are required to earn their AA degrees from Santa Fe College (SF).

The completed AA degree fulfills all Quest/state core/general education course requirements of the UF degree audit.

Usually, students in the program will earn their AA degrees in conjunction with completing their CT coursework at SF. However, if for some reason a student has finished all CT classes at SF but has not yet completed the AA degree, that student would still become a Full UF student for the next semester. The student would then complete the remaining AA degree coursework at UF and earn the required AA degree via a reverse transfer of credit back to Santa Fe College.
