Dr. Luisa Amelia Dempere is the director of the Research Service Centers (RSC) of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (COE) at the University of Florida (UF). She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at UF. Her expertise resides in the areas of multi-user research facilities management, materials characterization and analysis, and analytical instrumentation, particularly electron microscopy and microanalysis. Her research and graduate advising activities are conducted as an affiliate faculty in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering. Her administrative and service roles get accomplished through her involvement in several shared-governance committees, her involvement with the work of the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer as a certified instructor of Crucial Conversations, and as the director of the RSC.
The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) Research Service Centers (RSC) support and enhance the research, education, and public service missions of the University of Florida by providing access to characterization and process instrumentation. Expert staff provides assistance and guidance necessary so that students, faculty and industry get the most effective and appropriate use of the center’s facilities.
This talk provides insight into the RSC instruments and tools, services, training and use of the facilities. It will also include a review of how to use the RSC website, the Tool Usage Monitoring Interlock (TUMI) system, access to free training practices, safety guidelines and a buddy system for work after hours and on weekends.
