This two-part presentation will help faculty in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering learn about the state of collegiate mental health, basic skills for recognizing and supporting students in distress, and mental health resources offered at UF.

The first part of the training (February 16, 12–1) will focus on educating faculty about the incidence of mental health concerns on college campuses, common factors that contribute to psychological distress, and the types and availability of UF resources. The second part (February 18, 12–1) will focus on teaching basic helping skills to help faculty recognize signs of distress, approach students about this topic, and provide appropriate referrals to campus resources. Questions will be welcome throughout both parts of the presentation.

Presenter Bios:

Taylor Morris, Ph.D.

Dr. Taylor Morris is a clinical assistant professor at the CWC and received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2021. He has experience working in several different University Counseling centers, including the University of Florida for his internship. His clinical interest focuses on students with career development/decision-making concerns, difficulties managing anxiety, sexuality/gender identity related concerns, and interpersonal difficulties. Dr. Morris enjoys using outreach to help UF community members build coping skills and life practices that support their mental health and well-being.

Kelsea Visalli, Ph.D.

Dr. Kelsea Visalli is a clinical assistant professor at the CWC and received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville in 2019. She has experience working in several different University Counseling centers, including several small private institutions as well as several larger public Universities, including the University of Florida for her internship. Her clinical interest focuses on students with food/body related concerns, interpersonal difficulties, experiences of trauma, and providing sensitive and compassionate care to students with unique backgrounds and life experiences. Dr. Visalli enjoys providing outreach to students and faculty across campus not only to offer preventative care and break down the barrier that keeps some individuals from accessing mental health services, but also to create new connections with different departments across UF.
