Title: Introduction to EIS

Presented by: Mark E. Orazem, Ph.D.

Impedance spectroscopy is an electrochemical technique with broad applications to batteries, fuel cells, corrosion, sensors, and electrodes for neural applications. The section will present impedance spectroscopy to be a transfer function for electrical properties. The discussion will include the history of impedance spectroscopy, applications that demonstrate the unique capability of impedance spectroscopy to quantify important phenomena, and methods to measure impedance. The experimentalist will be encouraged to select measurement parameters to control linearity, to maximize information content, to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, to minimize nonstationary effects, and to minimize instrumental bias errors.
