welcome to the world of AI

Changing the world with transparency, openness & illumination

The Malachowsky Hall for Data Science & Information Technology is the newest addition to the stunning UF campus skyline. Bringing together key departments from the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and other disciplines, the Malachowsky Hall is set to reimagine research, applications and transformative advancements in today’s most promising field, AI.

The 263,000-square-foot facility, a dream “collaborative and collision space” come true for many faculty, students and friends of the UF, is made possible by a generous gift from NVIDIA co-founder and UF alumnus Chris Malachowsky (BSEE ’80).

The exterior is clad with 1,500 custom-designed metal panel units that shimmer like origami cranes in the Florida sunshine.

The interior is split by a grand atrium, allowing daylight to spread through seven levels that are united by a grand staircase that cascades from the top tier to the ground-floor lobby.

The design of the building is intended to evoke the dynamism and immersive nature of AI-generated images. The brainchild of Pennsylvania-based team Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, with assistance from Gainesville firm Walker Architects, the building is on track to be LEED platinum certified, making it the 100th building on UF campus that reflects the university’s unwavering dedication to sustainability.
