International Student Achievement Awards

The International Student Achievement Awards Ceremony is celebrated each year in tandem with UF’s International Education Week and is sponsored by the University of Florida International Center.

The International Student Achievement Awards was created to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of our international students. The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is the biggest home to UF’s international community and we want to acknowledge and thank each and everyone of you for bringing a positive effect to UF and HWCOE’s internationalization efforts.

The awards is a recognition of the outstanding contributions of international students to the college, university, and community.

The awards and certificates will be presented at the 29th Annual International Student Achievement Award (ISAA) ceremony during International Education Week. This year, the ceremony will be held on:

Tuesday, November 14th, 2023
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Location: Touchdown Terrace at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

Nominees should be students who have distinguished themselves in various ways, including:

  • academic excellence
  • outstanding teaching and mentorship
  • community service and civic involvement
  • leadership and innovation
  • developing creative solutions to global problems
  • contributions to global research projects

Nominated students will be considered for one of three awards, based on their degree level. Three recipients will be chosen to receive each award at the university level. Students may apply for the Certificates of Outstanding Achievement and/or the other awards corresponding to their level of study.

Certificates of Outstanding Merit

HWCOE will select students who will receive a certificate of recognition from UF International Center. 

  • Undergraduate or graduate international student in Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering
  • Demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, strong leadership skills, and community engagement
  • Not received the award before
  • A non-immigrant F-1/J-1 student visa holder

Alec Courtelis Award

Two nominees will be selected by HWCOE.

Three recipients will be selected university-wide and will receive $2,000 and a plaque. 

Recipients at the university level will be notified by Monday, November 6, 2023, via email.

 

  •  Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. Program in Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering
  • Demonstrates highest level of research and academic excellence in addition to a strong connection to UF and the Gainesville community.
  • A non-immigrant F-1/J-1 student visa holder

Students are required to submit their application packet with the documents below combined into one PDF:

1) A letter of nomination from the student’s Ph.D. advisor or other mentor
2) One additional letter of support, either from a faculty mentor or community leader
3) An essay or statement by the student addressing how they are contributing to the global dimensions of UF’s missions of teaching, research, and/or service (600-word limit)
4) A current C.V.

Outstanding Masters and Professional International Student Award

Two nominees will be selected by HWCOE.

Three recipients will be selected university-wide and will receive $1,500 and a plaque. 

Recipients at the university level will be notified by Monday, November 6, 2023, via email.

  • Currently enrolled in a M.S. program in Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering
  • Demonstrates highest level of academic and professional excellence in addition to an impact in the broader campus or local community.
  • A non-immigrant F-1/J-1 student visa holder

1) A letter of nomination from a faculty, advisor or other mentor who is familiar with the student’s accomplishments
2) One additional letter of support, either from a faculty mentor or community leader
3) An essay or statement by the student addressing how they are contributing to the global dimensions of UF’s missions of teaching, research, and/or service (600-word limit)
4) A current C.V.
