STUDENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

As part of the STEPUP bridge program for first-year engineering students, the STAR office sponsors corporate tours to engineering facilities and a corporate speaker series.

Corporate Tours

The STAR office partners with industry to sponsor tours of engineering companies that provide our students a behind-the-scenes look at engineering in process. Typically, these events include a 3-4 hour tour of the company site, along with presentations from engineering staff, Q&A session, etc. The company may provide lunch at its discretion. There will be a maximum of 40-50 participants (students & staff) participating on each tour and all program participants will be first-year engineering students officially admitted into the University of Florida. Details regarding company tour/visitor policies (dress code, cameras, etc.,) are shared with students/staff prior to the corporate visit to ensure compliance.

Corporate Speaker Series

Corporate representatives, STEPUP, and UF alum are invited to participate in the STAR office Corporate speaker series as a means of sharing their knowledge and expertise with our students.  Corporate speaker presentations typically include a 60 – 90 minute presentation of the company (History, overview, job/internship opportunities, professional advice for first-year engineering students, Q & A, etc.). Fall and Spring presentation dates are made available based on presenter request.
